“Eto Bite” Team, 2004 winner
In 2003 a team of journalists from VOA’s Central Atrica Division created Ejo Bite? (What About the Future?), a weekly show aimed at young Burundians, including those who lived in refugee camps in Tanzania or who had returned to Burundi.
The program is funded through a grant from the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration and broadcasts news, feature stories, and radio dramas produced by children in refugee camps. The children learn journalism techniques to conduct interviews and prepare weekly programs with a special interest for youth in their regions. The radio show gives African youth a voice to identify problems and search for solutions, providing hope to children whose lives have been ravished by conflict and disease.
Members of the team include Lucie Umukundwa, Jaqueline Segahungu, Marie-Claire Sissoko, Jean-Baptiste Nimubona, Auriane Ntahomvukiye, Yvette Umugwaneza, Gentille Ntibagirigwa, Olivier Isata, Joyeuse Akanyana,
